Have you ever had the sudden urge to play some football at a very inconvenient time?  Well, thanks to EA Sports, Madden NFL 12 has made the transition from console gaming to the Android market; so, now you can play as your favorite team and throw the game-winning touchdown while grocery shopping, driving, and/or having a romantic dinner with your significant other.  This App is the perfect getaway for mind-numbing situations and easily kills expendable time.  Madden NFL 12 for the Android is not perfect, but it’s a well-made adaptation to one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time.

Madden NFL 12 promotes the slogan, “True to the Game,” and includes all 32 teams, true-to-life stadiums, and real player jerseys – e.g. Eli Manning, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers.  The graphical detail isn’t great, but it’s very good for an Android electronic device.  This App comes packed with three game modes; Exhibition Mode, 16-game Season Mode, and a 2010/2011 Playoffs Mode.  The Madden NFL 12 App is what you would expect for a “cellphone” game, but it’s worth it – as compared to a $60 console game.

On August 17, 2009, a microscopic game called “Osmos HD” was released on to the Steam network for PC, Linux, and Mac use.  Since then, this game has gravitated more and more public attention for it’s unique and innovative gameplay – so, why not showcase it to a wider audience?  That’s exactly what the developing team, Hemisphere Games, had in mind; and now, it’s a part of the iOS and Android family.  Osmos HD has devoured it’s competition with multiple “Game of the Year” awards and caught the attention of many with it’s hypnotic soundtrack.

Osmos HD’s visuals are rich, colorful, and full of molecular detail.  The addictive gameplay has a fluent approach with a unique physics-based environment and has definite similarities to the stylistic endeavors of Asteroids and Geometry Wars.  The object of this game is simple, eat or be eaten – you must find smaller organisms to feed on, while in return, making your own mote larger with each fulfilling meal.  This game will not only challenge you with two distinct game modes, Odyssey and Arcade, but it will also have your palms sweating as you try to dodge and avoid predators through 72 dynamic levels.  Osmos HD is an entertaining and fun game, and it adapts well to the Android.

Beautiful Widgets

Beautiful Widgets is pretty self-explanatory, it’s an app with widgets that are beautiful.  But, the title does little to justify what adjectives should rightly describe this awesomely handy Android tool.  The weather forecast, time, battery-life, and calender has never been this stylish and mesmerizing to gaze at.  This little tool is great; I guarantee that you’ll spend more time looking at what’s happening outside on this app than actually physically being outside.

Developed by LevelUp Studio, Beautiful Widgets was honored by the Android staff with an “Editor’s Choice” award.  It goes to no surprise that this app should be recognized for it’s widely-based customizability; with over 1,000 free skins/themes to choose from, the possibilities and appearances are merely unique.  Also, the 15 stunning weather animations (rain, snow, etc.), realistic Moon phases, and toggle widgets (Wifi, Bluetooth, etc.) are a really nice touch too.

LevelUp Studio is pretty lenient with their refund policy as they offer customer’s a 24-hour grace period to decide whether or not they are fully satisfied with Beautiful Widgets.  So, don’t hesitate and try this app out; if you don’t like it, return it – but, I doubt you will.

Welcome to the world of an adorable green ball of love called Om Nom.  Om Nom is hungry, and in the Android app game “Cut the Rope,” it’s up to you to give him what he ultimately desires in life – CANDY.  Cut the Rope is essentially the 21st century offspring of the late ’90′s hit, Tamagachi; but, rather than just continuously tapping a tiny rubber button for your little monster, you have to travel through 250 levels of complex puzzles to please your baby with food.  So, in the end, your green buddy better respect you for the blood, sweat, and tears that strenuously poured out of your body just to nab him a piece of sugary delight – but, with that smile, you know he does.

This game has respectively won multiple awards, including, Apple Design Award, GDC Award, and Best App Ever Award.  The gameplay is innovative, the physics are realistic, and the graphics are outstanding.  Also, with the Facebook and Twitter in-game integration, you’ll be able to show off your achievements and leaderboard rankings; prove yourself to others that you aren’t a neglectful owner.

This application is meant to help you save the frustration of forgetting your list at home, or even losing your grocery list and starting over.  How easy is it to just whip out your Android when you learn you need to buy more!  This application features have very nice looking controls, this is not just another list app!

How often do you go shopping, only to find out you forgot the list at home?! Open Home allows users to customize their Android phone’s desktop.  The application allows for multiple virtual screens to place icons or widgets as well as customizable skins and icons packages.  It also features a virtual keyboard (similar to the default Cupcake keyboard) as well as auto-rotate to rotate the screen in landscape mode using the phone’s sensor.  Finally a feature called Live Folders allows to display application data on the fly from the home screen (useful for widget type applications).  A Live Folder can be used to display weather info, contacts, RSS feeds, battery status and more!
